When a Door Closes, A Better One Opens

Rejection stinks! But as a christian, I have learned to deal with rejection as I see it in a different way. When God closes doors, he is being like a parent that is stopping a toddler from going near the stairs. He only wants what is good for us. But when we don't know why that door is being closed, we don't feel good, right?

In 1 Samuel 29, David was on the run from King Saul. David found refuge among the Philistines during this time. He even offered to join their army! But God closed that door for him. A few chapters later, King Saul died and David was appointed king. We sometimes forget our calling, or don't know it at all (yet!). But God doesn't forget.

I've had many doors closed in my life. Especially in my career. I worked for 10 years for an amazing company, but the satellite office I worked in had really toxic environment. I dreaded going to work everyday! So I started to search for other jobs outside of the company. I applied for many jobs where I was an ideal candidate, and even had really good connections. Those jobs seemed like the perfect fit. But I was rejected from each one. The situation was so hard that I was constantly depressed and looking into other side gigs that could help me earn some kind of income, just to get out of there. But God had different plans for me.

Then one day, out of nowhere, an opportunity just found me. I was told about an open position with the same company, but at the headquarters. I lived in sunny Puerto Rico and the headquarters were in the wonderful winter wonderland of Wisconsin. So a big change for me and my family. But all felt like God was just opening the door and waiting for me to walk through it. I applied for the position and got the job. Not only I was going to continue working for the same company (which I didn't want to leave, just that office's toxic environment), but the entire move was filled with more open doors. It was like driving non-stop through a lot of green lights!

I am still working for the same amazing company, and have had awesome leaders that developed me in my career. And even here, when I tried to continue growing in my career, some doors were shut. But the one that took me to where I am today is my dream job! Those closed doors only helped me understand that He is in control and all I have to do is wait and see Him work.

My advice for you today is, when God closes a door, don't dismay, and don't take it personally. Sit down and pray for guidance and understanding. Rest in Him, have faith, and trust He is in control.

If you need prayer, please let me know. I would love to pray for you!
